Children Are Receiving Extended Services

Extended Day Program (CARES)

Immaculate Conception School provides professional care, supervision and activities for your child after school hours.  It serves families who desire both parochial school education and after-school care in a Catholic environment.  The Extended Day program (CARES) is staffed by experienced, devoted and committed ICS teachers and staff members.

CARES is open to all students enrolled at ICS in Grades Pre-K through 8. The program offers a balance between adult-directed and child-initiated activities, active and quiet times, indoor and outdoor games, snack time, and time for homework.

The program is directed by Ms Michelle Axtt.

Participation

Only those students who have pre-registered may participate in the extended day program.  The program will operate between 2:45 and 6:00 p.m. on regular school days.  For the 2009-2010 school year, CARES will begin the first full week of school (September 14) and conclude the day prior to the last day of school (June 17).  There will be no extended day services on the last day of school.

CARES will operate on scheduled half-days.

If school should have an early closure due to inclement weather or other emergency, CARES will be provided for two hours following the announced closure time as notified by Honeywell Alert.

Families may register full time (five days/week) or part time (three days/week).

Families may enter the CARES program during the school year, but only on the first of the month.

Daily Schedule

Normally, the daily schedule will consist of:

2:45-3:15 Report to Cafeteria, roll taken, snack*, bathroom time
3:15-4:00 Free play (Outside or in Gym if available)
4:00-5:00 Homework and/or quiet time*
5:00-6:00 Choice of Activities (board games, crafts, movie, etc.)

* Parents are asked to pack a snack for after school.  On scheduled half-days, a pizza lunch will be provided at no additional cost.

** CARES staff will supervise and support the children with homework, but parents are asked to check that homework is complete before returning to school.  All children are required to keep a book on hand for when homework is completed during this time.

Cost of Program

Full Time (5 days per week) $250.00 per month
Part Time (3 days per week) $175.00 per month

-An annual, non-refundable registration fee of $25.00 per family is required.

-A 10% sibling discount is given for full time enrollment only.  Payment is due the first of the month for the coming month.

-A late fee will be charged to parents arriving after the closing time of 6:00 p.m.  This fee is $5.00 until 6:10, then $1.00 per minute thereafter.

Expectations for Children's Behavior

The children are expected to respect the staff, each other and the material and environment provided.  They must never leave the building or grounds without explicit permission of the staff.  Such permission will be granted only by order of the parent or guardian.  Children may not go back to their homerooms to get forgotten books or assignments.  Behavior issues will be brought to the attention of parents with an eye on improvement.  Repeated violations of the rules of good conduct may result in dismissal from the program.

Illness or Accident

In cases which appear to be minor in nature, First Aid will be administered on the premises.  In cases which appear serious, the staff will make every effort to carry out the instructions as given on the emergency form.  Parents who do not wish their child treated in any way should indicate such on the emergency form and should give directions to be followed in the space, "Special Instructions."  If the parent does not supply adequate emergency instructions, or if the instructions given cannot be followed at the time of the emergency, the CARES staff will act according to their best judgment for the welfare of the child.

Pick-Up Procedure

The children will be dismissed from the cafeteria where the program is based.  If the children are elsewhere on the grounds, a sign will be posted directing you there.  Children must be signed out and will be dismissed only to parents/guardians and those listed on the emergency sheet.  If there is a change, please notify us beforehand.
