Art I CP

Grade 10 -12
Art 1 CP is a survey course through which a variety of media and techniques are experienced.  Students will learn about the elements of art, principles of design, art history, aesthetics and critiquing.  This foundation course will equip, inspire and encourage students to become visually and aesthetically literate.  Students in Art 1 work in a variety of media including:  drawing, painting and ceramics.
This course is a prerequisite for other year-long Studio- track courses.

Two-Dimensional Design CP

Grade 11 – 12
Two-Dimensional Design CP is a full year dynamic studio course that introduces students to the elements and principles of Art in two dimensional forms.  Building on the fundamentals taught in ART 1, students will further develop drawing and painting skills.  Instruction in the process of these media will be applied during the first semester and students will be expected to expand on these skills throughout the year. The students will create portfolio work by applying their knowledge in personally themed work.  
Prerequisite:  Art 1

Three Dimensional Design CP

Grade 11 – 12
In this full year hands-on course, students will take the elements and principles of Art to the next conceptual level through the creation of three-dimensional forms.  During this year long course, students will work with a wide variety of materials, study their historical context, keep a sketchbook, develop a series of works that demonstrate their understanding of successful design development and application.

Computer Graphics

Grade 11 – 12
Computer Graphics offers a comprehensive study of three major computer graphics programs.  With Adobe Photoshop CS, the student will learn to produce images for the printed page, the Web and virtually any other medium.  With Adobe Illustrator CS, he/she will create graphics for print and multimedia.  The student will learn the art of typography and page layout needed for all forms of publication.

Digital Photography - Semester elective

Grade 11 – 12
Digital Photography is an introduction to the art of photography using digital media and Adobe Photoshop software. Color, composition, subject matter, theme, metaphor, symbolism and presentation will be emphasized. Students are required to have a digital camera for their work.

Digital Film - Semester elective

Grade 11 – 12
Digital Film offers the students an introduction to film making using digital video.  Industry-standard editing software Final Cut Pro will be used to import and edit footage, create transitions and import sound.  Storytelling and screenwriting will also be emphasized in preparation for student projects using Final Draft software, the standard among Hollywood screenwriters.

Web Site Design - Semester elective

Grade 10 – 12
Web Site Design is a semester course in which students will study and apply the digital language of the Internet to create and program their own web pages using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and basic JAVA scripting. Students will explore the primary coding used in the creation and management of content (layouts, images and data) on the World Wide Web in order to acquire a relevant knowledge of the purposes and functions of the media we all use on a daily basis. Software used in this course is Adobe Dreamweaver CS4.


Art Portfolio - Semester elective

Grade 12
Art Portfolio is designed for the serious art student who intends to pursue art at the college or career level.  Portfolio development will be emphasized.  The student will focus on areas of artistic interest and compile a body of work that displays both artistic development and proficiency in the development of the portfolio.  Department approval is required.

AP History of Art and Civilization

Grade 12
AP History of Art and Civilization is a college level course designed to provide the student with an understanding and enjoyment of architecture, sculpture, painting and other art forms with historical and cultural contexts.  Students examine major forms of artistic expression from the past and present and from a variety of cultures.  They learn to look at works of art critically, with intelligence and sensitivity, and to articulate what they see or experience.  No prior exposure to art history is required.  However, students who have done well in other courses in the humanities, such as history and literature, or in studio art are especially encouraged to enroll.  Students will also create studio projects based on the topics covered.
Prerequisite:  Honors and College Prep students who have achieved an average of at least 93 in upper level English or Humanities courses.
