Personal Finance

Grade 9
This course will be a new addition to our curriculum.  It will cover the most current and relevant topics, including identity theft, buying a car, and using debit cards.  Real-life examples and the creation of documents and forms using Microsoft Office will be used to capture the interest of today's consumer-oriented teens.  Personal Finance will reflect the growing need for 21st century citizens to be financially literate, particularly in light of the increasing number of financial choices they face due to the global economy.



Accounting 1 CP

Grade 11-12
Accounting 1 H is an introductory course that will provide students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of financial accounting, much like the first semester of college accounting.  The complete accounting cycle will be taught for the three types of businesses: proprietorship, partnership and corporation.  The student will develop the ability to analyze, record transactions, prepare financial statements and then interpret the results. There will be an emphasis on the importance of automated accounting.

Accounting 2H

Grade 12
Accounting 2 H is a continuation of Accounting 1 for students who plan to continue their education in Accounting and/or Business Administration.  An in-depth study will be made on corporation accounting, stocks and bonds, managerial accounting, financial accounting and not-for-profit accounting.  Microsoft Excel will be used to complete accounting problems.

Marketing CP

Grade-11-12
In this full-year course, the student will explore all aspects of marketing -- from the producer through distribution channels to the consumer -- as well as careers in marketing.  Real-life examples from industry publications help relate concepts to familiar products.  This course will promote critical and creative thinking, decision making and communication skills that will be helpful in the marketing world.  Students will be involved in the 10 week Stock Market Game, administered by the NJ Economic Commission at Kean University.

Business Law CP - Semester elective

Grade 11-12
Business Law CP covers the basic foundations of business law and the current American values and virtues in our society today.  Law and justice, contracts, property, employment law, forms of business organizations and the law of finance will be intoduced.  Students will develop a legal vocabulary that helps them to think more analytically and critically and function more confidently in business and college.

Introduction to Business/ International Business CP

Grade 11 -12
Introduction to Business/ International Business will give students the basic understanding needed as they pursue advanced courses in business. The first semester of this course will unlock the mysteries of what businesses are, how they work, and the impact they have on students' everyday lives.  Students will learn what steps they can take to prepare for success in their future careers.  The second semester of this course will provide the student with the basics of international business.  Focus will be on social, cultural, political and economic factors and will allow the students to see global differences in this area.  International finance and economics will be covered.  Students will be involved in the 10 week Stock Market Game each semester, administered by the NJ Economic Commission at Kean University.

Computer Science H

Grade 11-12
Computer Science H provides an overview of information processing, including programming in JAVA, a survey of computer languages and computer system design concepts.  Students will be introduced to documentation and analyzing problems for computer solutions.  This course is designed for any student who is interested in the field of computer information systems.
Prerequisite:  Algebra I (minimum 80) and Departmental Approval.

Economics CP - Semester elective

Grades 10 -12
Economics CP will introduce the student to the science of economics, which is concerned with the problem of scarcity, of choice and the allocations of resources.  Special attention will be given to the recurrent economic problems of inflation, unemployment, depression and recession. Attention will be given to the Federal Reserve System and the influence on our banking system, function of money and the influence on our personal lives.
