Exams, Progress Reports, and Report Cards

Every student, except those who are exempt*, is required to take semester examinations in January and June of each scholastic year.  By carefully preparing for these examinations, the student is able to obtain an overall view of the course of instruction.  These examinations count for one-fifth of the semester grade.

*Seniors are exempt from June examinations in full year courses if they have earned a grade of 93 or above in each quarter, including the fourth quarter.

Failure

The grading system calls for exact numerical grades.  Seventy (70) is the passing grade.  The college recommended grade is 80.  A final grade below 70 receives no academic credit for the course.

Student/Parent/Teacher conferences are mandatory if a student receives a failing grade in the first or second marking period. If a student fails one or two courses at the end of the year, he/she may not be promoted to the next grade unless the failure is removed by successful completion of an approved credit recovery program, at which time a 70 will replace the failing grade.

Quality Points
Most subjects are taught at two or more levels of difficulty.  To compensate for these varying levels, a quality point system is used by which a student receives a number of points based not only on his/her grade but also on the level of the course.
