Immaculata High School
Music Department
A Tradition of Excellence
Our school is rich in history and tradition and the Immaculata Band is leading that parade, literally! For the better part of 40 years the Immaculata Music Department has served the community and school proudly and capably. We have established a tradition of excellence and now YOU are the next part of that tradition. The instrumental and vocal program is open to all students regardless of ability or previous knowledge of an instrument. Students who have never played an instrument before are encouraged to begin that study in the ninth grade.
Click here for a Music Department brochure that contains the various types of ensembles that we offer. Some are curricular (those meeting during the school day) and some a co-curricular (those groups that rehearse after school). Because of the wide program of offerings, we are able to accommodate student athletes. You
can be in the band and play a sport, MANY of our students do.
Thank you for your interest in the Immaculata Music Department. We look forward to meeting you and having you join the Tradition of Excellence, the Immaculata Music Program!

Commonly asked questions:
Will I miss any academic classes through participation in music (usually referred to as a pull-out program)?
NO. Music is a scheduled class within the school day. It is an elective, however it replaces Physical Education/ Study Hall in sophomore, junior and senior years of high school. Music is a regular class that receives a grade and credit like any other subject. There are CP and Honors level classes and placement in those classes is by audition.
Do I have to participate in the concert band if I want to roster for music?
YES. The music class consists of 3 parts. Music Theory/ History, Instrumental Method, Ensemble with the band.
Are there after school requirements?
YES. There are after school requirements, however for students that participate in just the concert band there are few and the schedule is given out well in advance.
Do I have to be in the Marching Band if I want to take music?
NO. HOWEVER, it is strongly encouraged. Unless the student is playing a fall sport, they should be participating in the Marching Band. It is a fun and exciting activity that is unlike any other in the school. Get involved in high school - it will be worth your while!
Do I have to already know how to play an instrument to participate in the music program?
NO. We teach many students new instruments every year. We will teach just about any band instrument that a student wants to play.
How many students are involved in the music program?
There are over 200 students involved in the music program. 160 in marching band alone.
Is the chorus a class like the band? NO. Do to scheduling, chorus is an after school co-curricular activity. It meets on Monday after school.
What are all of the performing groups you offer? Concert Band (Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and 9th Symphony (Freshman Band)), Marching Band (Color Guard), Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Music Ministry, Chorus, Small Ensembles
