Marriage

Couples are encouraged to contact the Parish Office to begin the Marriage Preparation Program.  It is recommended that engaged couples begin this process a year before the wedding.  To arrange for a marriage celebration or further information, contact the Parish Office at 908-725-1112 or email [email protected].

Jesus said:
“From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” Mark 10:6-9

“God himself is the author of marriage. The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1603) Marriage is a sacrament, a vehicle of God’s grace for the spouses, and is meant to mirror the permanent, faithful love of Christ for His bride, the Church. If a man and woman are to achieve the true union of their lives they need the grace God gives them in this sacrament to overcome the effects of sin. Just as Jesus attended the wedding feast at Cana so too He is present in every marriage always ready to assist the couple grow in love and understanding. “Christ dwells with them, gives them the strength to take up their crosses and so follow him, to rise again after they have fallen, to forgive one another, to bear one another’s burdens, to be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ, and to love one another with supernatural, tender and faithful love.” (C.C.C. # 1642)
